Health The bureaucracy blocks the donation of Amancio Ortega to La Fe y el Clínico
It is not the first time that the administrative bureaucracy has prevented Valencian hospitals from putting into operation the millionaire equipment donated by the Amancio Ortega Foundation.
The latest, a
Gamma Knife radiosurgery machine valued at 3.5 million euros
, has been in use at the Valencia Clinic Hospital for more than a year.
And the reason is none other than an "administrative problem", according to sources from the Valencia City Council.
The consistory governed by Compromís and PSOE has not processed the building
permit
requested by the Hospital to adapt the space to install the equipment.
This is also confirmed by the Ministry of Health itself after advancing
Las Provincias
that the file has been paralyzed for more than a year.
Sources of the consistory deny that it is a problem of license jam as the PP has denounced, but that, in some way, the request of the Hospital was misplaced. In fact, the same sources indicate that the technicians are already working so
that the works can begin "as soon as possible"
, and one of the formulas that are considered is that the center can start the works by means of a responsible declaration, that is, even without have all the papers in order.
Already in 2018, municipal technicians of Valencia
objected to both the Clinic and Hospital La Fe
to carry out works to adapt their radiology areas. The argument then was that the hospitals lacked a first occupation license. But, in practice, this also blocked the implementation of diagnostic imaging technology that the Inditex businessman had donated to the Generalitat Valenciana.
The Ministry of Health signed an
agreement with the Amancio Ortega Foundation
in 2018 that contemplated a total investment of 29.4 million euros for the supply, installation and commissioning of equipment for care, diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases.
The president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, then valued the agreement because thanks to it it would be possible to "improve the lives of patients" and "save thousands of lives."
