• The Grand-Est region and the Strasbourg Eurometropolis have signed a mobility pact.

  • This “partnership” will make it possible to very significantly increase the timing of regional trains, services, and time ranges.

  • But also to transform several stations into hubs of exchanges and develop the network of interurban coaches.

With the gradual implementation from 2022 of the Low Emission Zone (ZFE) in the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg, an area where all diesel vehicles will be banned "by January 1, 2028 at the latest", the community is pressing on the accelerator to offer alternatives to the car.

An ambition that seems to be on the right track with the signing of a pact with the Grand-Est region.

A pact described as a “supply shock” for mobility by Eurometropolis Vice-President Alain Jund, in charge of mobility and transport.

The objective of this agreement is to reduce greenhouse gases, improve air quality but also to treat “traffic congestion and traffic jam”, says Alain Jund without forgetting “the right to mobility. for everyone.

"With the Eurometropolis as a playground, of course, but also its entire employment and daily life pool, including cross-border.

A pact which should concretely change the situation for a good number of inhabitants, in particular those who feel distant or find the Alsatian capital poorly served.

Stations will change function

It has been observed that the 13 stations that make up the Eurometropolis are used too little, apart from the central station and perhaps that of Entzheim.

They will therefore completely change their function, their nature.

The main objective of this pact is to irrigate the territory with the train.

Thus for the stations of Bischheim, Schiltigheim, the number of stops will go from 30 to 70. For that of Hoenheim from 30 to 60 stops, in Fegersheim, we go from 48 daily stops to 78. The rail network will go s '' accelerate all the more as this new timing will also change hourly amplitude to go, from 2023, until 10:30 p.m.

Transformation of stations into hubs of exchanges

By 2025, the stations of Vendenheim, Roethieg, Bischheim, Schiltigheim, La Wantzenau will also change their nature to become hubs of metropolitan exchanges so that "the train is not just something that passes and takes passengers. , but let it become a hub where there is mobility and services, ”says Alain Jund.

Connection with cycle paths, buses, coaches, enhanced accessibility, the goal is wide.

A metropolitan road or interurban express network

Intercity buses will also benefit from this pact.

First of all with the famous Public Transport in Own Site of the West (TSPO), a sea serpent that has been restless for many years and should finally materialize by 2024. This will improve the 'access to the Eurometropolis from Wasselonne.

Time range, speed and additional stops will allow part of the west of the agglomeration to finally have an answer in terms of public transport, in particular via the connection to Wolfisheim by tram.
