The participants come from all over Skåne.

From Helsingborg in the northwest to Sjöbo in the south.

They put in thousands of hours to get the chance to be part of Sweden's strength for rescue dogs.

- The basic training takes 18 months, then you have to add a year and a half before you can be considered in sharp operation, says Petra Geistrand rescue dog instructor at the Swedish Working Dog Club.

The training is commissioned by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).

Today the training takes place at their facility in Revinge.

Only every fourth couple, rescue dog and dog handler, pass the basic training.

High demands on dogs and drivers

It requires mental strength and an incredible willingness to train in both dog handlers and rescue dogs.

They meet every week for joint training and in addition to the training, the rescue couple is expected to spend several hours training on their own.

- A rescue dog is looking for living people with the help of airborne weathering and must be able to withstand enormous pressure, says Petra Geistrand who also works as a contingency coordinator and external officer at the rescue service Skånemitt.
