Accidents are rare in the Kuala Lumpur metro.
However, more than 200 passengers were injured Monday in the collision of two trains in the capital of Malaysia.
Among them, 47 are in serious condition, police said.
"The trains collided and the impact threw the passengers on the ground" on a line in central Kuala Lumpur, not far from the famous Petronas Towers, said police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.
On social networks circulated images of the wounded taken care of in the emergency rooms of the city's hospitals, as well as of the interior of the damaged train, with wounded on the ground among the shards of glass.
The criminal trail ruled out
One of the two trains, which had just been repaired and was running empty, was traveling for some reason for the time unknown, on the same underground track as the other train, crowded on Monday evening.
The police ruled out the criminal trail, the accident apparently due to a communication problem.
Moreover, the two trains were going at low speed (20 km / h for one, 40 for the other) at the time of the collision, according to the police.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin assured on Facebook that he had asked the Ministry of Transport and the Kuala Lumpur metro operator "for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the accident".
