The forecast indicates that the proportion of people over the age of 80 in the city of Landskrona will increase by 50 percent by 2029.

This was the forecast that led Victor Jönsson, development manager at the technology and leisure administration, to outline a change,

- We have removed laundry and cleaning so that the assistant nurses can work more with care, that was the main purpose.

But we also see that the change creates a more attractive work environment and more time for users, he says.

Take photos before washing

Users' laundry is picked up and left on exposed days outside their front doors.

The bags are transported to the municipal laundry, a municipal labor market project, where ten people are assigned to only take care of the user laundry.

One of them is Ahmed El Akkouri.

- I photograph the clothes before we wash, and then I compare with what we put back.

It is important not to mix customers' laundry, he says.

Ahmed El Akkouri, who has been employed at the laundry for a year now, says that he irons and mangles the laundry if he sees that it is needed.

Get a savings

The city has invested half a million kronor to adapt the laundry to the new extended assignment - but the change has actually meant a saving according to Bosse Lundgren, chairman of the technology and leisure committee.

- During the first year, the user laundry has given just under a million in savings.

- But the big idea is still that those who care should have more time with the users.

A win-win, he says.

Same as cleaning

Does the change mean that even more people show up in users' homes?

- The laundry staff picks up the laundry outside the door, precisely because we do not want to add more people to the elderly, says Victor Jönsson.

- Otherwise, we try to be the same person who comes and cleans for the users to get continuity.
