US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed the need to reach a peace agreement in Yemen, stressing that his country is striving to achieve this.

Blinken added that good relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran could lead to positive results to end some disputes and battles between proxies.

He said that the Saudis are constructively engaged in ending the war, and that they need the same answer from the Houthis, and that Iran should use its influence over them to move in the same direction, as he put it.

Since arriving at the White House on January 20, US President Joe Biden has sought to end the war in Yemen.

In his first foreign policy speech, Biden announced an end to all military support for the war in Yemen, saying that this war must "end," and Timothy Lenderking has appointed a special US envoy to Yemen to push for a diplomatic solution.

To date, none of the many initiatives - led by the United Nations and the United States - have succeeded in ending the war in Yemen, which has been going on for nearly 7 years between the pro-government forces backed by the Saudi-Emirati coalition, and the Houthis supported by Iran, who have controlled provinces, including the capital, Sanaa, since September September 2014.
