Haiti is currently experiencing serious security problems, social unrest, a sharp increase in human rights violations, endemic poverty and a lack of basic resources, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic

", this is what says US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. And he continues: "

So we decided that we should do our best to support Haitian nationals in the United States until conditions in Haiti improve

."

The measure of the Biden administration concerns some 100,000 Haitians.

Since 2017 and Donald Trump's announcement to withdraw their temporary residence permit on American soil, they have been living with the fear of being deported.

Their status gives them the right to live and work in the United States.

For his part, the Haitian president welcomed the American announcement.

Ignoring the serious multi-dimensional crisis that Haiti is going through and which is at the origin of the American announcement, Jovenel Moïse welcomed a decision, which, according to him, "

confirms the strength of the friendship between the two countries
