"The most terrible economic and geopolitical sanction against the United States is when Russia completes the construction of Nord Stream 2, when we get an alternative channel for supplying gas to Europe, even in a double volume than today through Ukraine," he said.

Sherin noted that "in this way, Ukraine will already listen carefully to what Russia has to say, and will not blackmail Europe with disruptions, interruptions in the supply of Russian gas."

“This is when Russia completes the construction of Nord Stream 2, when we begin to uninterruptedly supply gas to Europe, when Ukraine realizes that it will lose huge transit money, which Russia is now forced to pay to them in order for them to provide uninterrupted gas supplies to Europe then we can set any conditions for America, ”he said.

According to him, "then America will itself, unilaterally, lift its sanctions against the Russian Federation, because they will immediately lose the most terrible thing - control over European countries."

Earlier it was reported that the United States imposed sanctions on relations between Russian organizations and courts under the Nord Stream 2 project.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Washington will continue to oppose the completion of the pipeline.

At the same time, the White House admitted that it would be very difficult to stop the completion of the gas pipeline, which is about 95% complete.

It was also reported that the Federal Office for Shipping and Hydrography of the Federal Republic of Germany authorized the immediate continuation of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the German exclusive economic zone.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak commented on the situation with Nord Stream 2.

He noted that "the project is being implemented not only by the Russian side, but also by a consortium of the largest European companies that are interested in bringing Nord Stream 2 to completion."

In April, Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma's international affairs committee, also commented on the situation around Nord Stream 2, including the US position on the gas pipeline. In an interview with FAN, he expressed the opinion that the United States has a chance not to drive bilateral relations into an impasse if Washington is willing to engage in constructive meaningful dialogue.
