• European Swimming Championships, Benedetta Pilato signs the world record in the 50 breaststroke

May 23, 2021Margherita Panziera wins the gold medal in the 200 backstroke at the European Swimming Championships in Budapest, with a time of 2.06.08 (championship record). It is the fourth gold medal for Italy in this edition of the European Championships. Silver for the British Cassie Wild in 2.07.74, bronze for the Hungarian Katalin Burian in 2.07.87.



Also wins Benedetta Pilato, who wins the gold medal in the final of the 50 female breaststroke. The Taranto, who yesterday broke the world record, closed with a time of 29.35, ahead of the Finnish Ida Hulkko (30.19) and the Russian Yuliya Efimova (30.22). Sixth the other blue in the race, Arianna Castiglioni (30.35).



"I'm happy, I expected it a bit but it's still a first medal in a European championship and that's okay", commented Benedetta to RaiSport's microphones after the victory. "I didn't expect to do better than yesterday, but the weather is still very good. I'm going home quite satisfied, because I wanted to do better in the 100 breaststroke," she added.
