For a few weeks, 700 students of different ages in 27 schools, three of them in Dalarna, were allowed to photograph their plates before they started eating their school lunch and after they had finished eating.

Food waste decreased markedly

The app that the students used when they took photos could feel what was thrown and how much.

The final report after the Svinnkollen project, which is backed by Dalarna University and the Royal Institute of Technology, among others, is now complete and shows a marked difference in how much food has been thrown away.

- From the first days to the last days of the experiment, the loss decreased by about 20 percent, says Sverker Johansson, senior advisor at Dalarna University.
