- The short-term measure that must be taken immediately is to increase the contributions to the pension system because it is underfunded.

When the fees are not enough, the pensions become lower and above all it affects the most disadvantaged pensioners, says Jan Andersson, first vice chairman of PRO.

PRO, together with SKPF Pensionärerna and the think tank Tiden, wrote the report in which they produced proposals on how to change the pension system.

- The pension system has become a trap for women.

It is not reasonable for women who are struggling for a lifetime in, for example, care to risk ending up with less than half their salary in retirement.

It is not surprising that confidence in pensions drops like a rock when the system is completely underfunded, says Martin Rynoson, deputy head of analysis at Tankesmedjan Tiden to SVT Nyheter.

Pensions are predicted to be a hot choice

PRO believes that pension contributions should be increased from the current 17.21 percent to 18.5 percent and could be financed in the following way.

- Those who earn the best, over SEK 40,000 a month, the pension contribution today goes to the state.

It could go to the pension system instead.

The other possibility is to use the "general employer contribution" and it could be reduced and then the companies' pension contribution would be increased, says Jan Andersson.

Pensions are considered to be a hot election issue in the next election and the Sweden Democrats, SD, want to scrap the cross-bloc pension group that exists to produce proposals for a reformed pension system (the Left Party and the Sweden Democrats are not included).

SD believes that the only thing the pension group has done is to agree to raise the retirement age, something that even PRO believes is the wrong way to go.
