An investigation for assassinations was entrusted to the gendarmes of the Research Section of Nîmes (Gard), after the discovery of a lifeless couple, in a farmhouse, in Saint-Gilles, said the public prosecutor, Eric Maurel.

The two victims were found in a car, parked in an outbuilding on their property.

A 73-year-old man died in the cabin of the vehicle in the passenger seat.

A 69-year-old woman was found lifeless in the trunk.

Violent acts

It was the gendarmes who discovered the bodies, alerted by a member of the family, worried not to hear from them.

According to the public prosecutor of Nîmes, the two victims suffered acts of "very particular violence".

Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday, to determine the causes of their death.
