May 19, 2021 According to the scientific publication Scientific Reports, an enormous concentration of substances to increase male sexual potency was found in the wastewater from residential sewers of the South Korean capital Seoul.

These are phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (PDE-5i, such as Sildenafil, Tadalafil and Vardenafil), which are mainly prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and which are part of the drug Viagra.

The amount of Viagra in the wastewater in the South Korean capital is 3-4 times higher than in the wastewater in Brussels or Copenhagen.

According to experts, the quantity was so large that the treatment plants were unable to cope with the purification of waste water. The group of scientists also managed to establish that the drug was mostly used on weekends. In Seoul's nightlife districts, the use of the drug Viagra has been documented with a concentration that is 31% higher than in other parts of the city.
