According to a Taiwanese media report on May 17, after Taiwan suffered a large-scale power outage on May 13, there were multiple power outages on the island that night.

According to Ming Pao News Network, 1.93 million households were affected by this impact on the evening of the 17th.

Taipower held an online press conference on the evening of the 17th, and Taipower Chairman Yang Weifu led a team to apologize.

Taipower stated that, unlike the power outage on the 13th that was caused by human error and caused a problem with the power grid, the regional power cut is indeed a "power supply problem". The main reason is that the Xingda Power Plant No. 1 unit failed in the afternoon. After the repair, it took longer to load up in parallel. Long, coupled with poor water conditions, hydropower scheduling has reached its limit at night, unable to cope with the large amount of residential electricity demand after nightfall.

In order to maintain the balance of power supply and demand, the system will automatically protect the equipment and power outages in some areas.

There were two major blackouts in five days, which also caused many people on the island to complain.
