From next month onwards, everyone from Hessen can register for a vaccination appointment.

And even before the summer holidays, an offer is to be made to schoolchildren from the age of twelve.

The Corona cabinet decided on Monday.

Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) reported that 37 percent of the population had been vaccinated once and ten percent twice.

Hesse is now stable in the midfield of the federal states.

The first two prioritization groups have largely been processed.

Until the largest part of the third group has an appointment, it will probably take until July in all of Hesse.

There are demographic differences in the regions.

In order for the vaccination campaign to progress everywhere, citizens of Hessen and all of Germany should be allowed to register from June onwards.

"Where everyone from prioritization group 3 has received an appointment, everyone else who wants to be vaccinated can then gradually get in touch," said Beuth.

    Vaccination offer until the holidays

According to a decision by the health ministers, all twelve to eighteen year olds in general and vocational schools should be offered a vaccination offer by the end of the summer vacation. This also applies to Hessen. According to the state government, about half a million students are involved there. The federal government has promised to provide the federal states with the additional vaccine required for this. Of the vaccines currently approved in Germany, only the Biontech product is currently approved for people from the age of 16. Approval for at least twelve year olds is expected shortly.

"The vaccination of older pupils is an important milestone for a safe school operation", said Minister of Education Alexander Lorz (CDU). He was "very optimistic that very soon in the new school year we will largely return to everyday school life that we knew before Corona".

The first vaccinations for young people in Hesse are to take place from June 28th until the beginning of the summer vacation on July 19th. Students can register in advance at their vaccination center. The state government wants to announce when it will start. Basically, the pupils should be immunized in the vaccination centers; but this can also be done in a doctor's office. In order to reach the largest possible number of people, parents should also receive an offer. If a child is not vaccinated, they will still need negative corona test results in the next school year in order to be able to attend classes.

Social Minister Kai Klose (Die Grünen) reported on the first vaccination campaigns with which “citizens in socio-economically disadvantaged places” could be better reached.

Municipalities have taken the initiative with mobile teams.

"The state expressly supports such neighborhood-related vaccination campaigns within the currently applicable prioritization rules," emphasized Klose.

The cities and municipalities themselves decided on the type and scope after consultation with the central municipal associations. "Everyone needs and wants vaccination," said Klose.

"Therefore, the right to vaccination should be implemented as low-threshold as possible."

    In twelve different languages

According to Klose, information on corona vaccination is already available online in twelve languages.

They will continue to be distributed in health departments and local networks of associations and migrant organizations in order to reach the target group even better.

Multilingual video clips would be published on social media, said Klose.

According to Beuth, around three million people have been immunized in Hesse so far, of which around 700,000 have been outside the vaccination centers since the beginning of April.

"It shows how efficient the tried and tested structures from pharmacies to general practitioners are," said Beuth.

The vaccination doses are still "a scarce commodity".

But the deliveries promised by the federal government stabilized.

Therefore, dissolve the supply that you have put aside for the second vaccination to be on the safe side.

According to the decision of the Prime Minister's Conference, Hessen receives around 175,000 vaccine doses a week. The vaccination centers are vaccinated around 30,000 times a day. That corresponds to the plans of the country. But the capacities went beyond that. Beuth explained that the vaccination centers would be needed for the vaccinations of the students until the end of the summer vacation on August 27. Federal financial support is guaranteed until the end of September.
