The record of 220,000 euros (estimate 150,000) for a copy of “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium” by Nicolaus Copernicus crowns the anniversary auction at Reiss & Sohn in Königstein. The second edition of the revolutionary pamphlet, printed in Basel in 1566, also contains the famous preface by Joachim Rheticus. A little surprise was a print of the "Etymologiae", which rose from an estimated 20,000 euros to 120,000 euros. It is the first edition of the compendium in Augsburg, which was compiled in the seventh century by Isidore of Seville from numerous ancient sources; the encyclopedia saved many classical texts from oblivion. Two rare expedition reports far exceeded their common estimate: A copy of the "News from the life and voyages of the famous Captain Cook",printed anonymously for the first time in 1780, the year after Cook's death, bound together with a pamphlet about the Spanish expeditions of the Bodega y Quadra, fetched 44,000 euros (20,000). Christoph Jacob Trew's “Plantae selectae” with 110 old-colored copper plates of mostly exotic plants reached their estimate of 30,000 euros; Johann Wilhelm Weinmann's "Phytanthoza-Iconographia" remained below their estimate of 50,000 euros at 42,000 euros.
