May 17, 2021 Johnson & Johnson has halved EU deliveries of its single-dose vaccine this week. An EU official told Reuters.

Under the contract with the European Union, J&J is expected to supply 55 million doses in the second quarter, but has currently only delivered 5 million doses, 10% of the total volume. The commitment for the 55 million doses, however, remains in place for June.

Due to this initial delay, the US pharmaceutical company "is halving its deliveries this week," the official said, adding that it is unclear whether the missing doses will be shipped next week.

"We understand that this is a temporary reduction" that will be recovered at "a later stage", added a spokesman for the European Commission.

Meanwhile, the US administration has decided that it will share another 20 million doses of Covid vaccines with the world by the end of June. The total amount of doses made available will be 80 million. These are Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson doses in addition to the 60 million AstraZeneca doses already "allocated" by Washington for other countries.
