The parents had chosen to give birth to the child at home with the assistance of a midwife whom they themselves had contacted.

But the birth could not be completed at home and instead an ambulance was called to drive the pregnant woman to the maternity ward.

A lifeless child was born there shortly after arrival, and despite resuscitation attempts, the child was not rescued.

The incident is now reported to the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate according to lex Maria.

The Jönköping County Region has carried out an investigation and the routines for information to pregnant women who choose home birth have been updated.
