China News Service, May 17th. According to a comprehensive report by the US "World Journal", former US Secretary of Transportation Zhao Xiaolan wrote an article publicly on the 14th. Starting from receiving a hateful email titled "Chinese women, go back to China", he denounced Asian prejudice hatred and deadly violence have exploded.

She also mentioned that she was born in Taiwan, China, and her family immigrated to practice the American dream, but her ethnic traditions are often questioned.

In this article titled "Asian Americans should be respected, not insults such as'rolling back to China'" published in USA Today, Zhao Xiaolan emphasized that Asian-Pacific descents are an indispensable part of the United States. It deserves to be more visible and heard.

Zhao Xiaolan, formerly Secretary of Labor and Secretary of Transportation, was the first Asian woman in the United States to be appointed as a member of the President's Cabinet and the longest-serving cabinet member since World War II.

At the beginning of her article, she wrote, "On a beautiful spring day, my day started with a cup of coffee, birds singing outside the kitchen window, and a hateful email titled'Chinese women, go back to China'. We are Americans. I am American. Born in Taiwan, China, came to the United States at the age of eight, and became a citizen at the age of 19. This is not the first time, and it will not be the last."

She said that since the epidemic, anti-Asian prejudice hatred and deadly violence have increased dramatically. “Even I am not immune from these malicious attacks, false statements, and accusations of unfaithfulness to the United States. Every time my husband (Federal referee) When Congressman Mitch McConnell took office, the opposition had no hesitation in questioning my ethnic traditions to oppose us; even the media made baseless attacks on me and my family."

Zhao Xiaolan said that compared with Asians becoming a scapegoat and constantly facing physical and psychological threats in the United States, her experience is nothing short of a big picture.

The heartbreaking thing is that May is "Asia Pacific Tradition Month", and the United States deserves to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the Asia Pacific community.

Zhao Xiaolan recalled that her father was given the opportunity to study abroad and went to the United States to practice the American dream.

The father had no money to allow his pregnant wife and two daughters to travel to the United States alone. Three years later, the whole family was able to reunite in the United States. "The first few years were very difficult; we don’t speak English. There is only one room in the Queens borough of New York City. A small apartment with a bedroom. But my parents are full of confidence in the land of opportunity in the United States. This is a dream shared by millions of Americans."

Zhao Xiaolan said that Asian-Pacific ancestors accounted for 7% of the American population. Although American history books are not well written, AAPI has been an integral part of the United States for hundreds of years.

She wrote that the Asia-Pacific community has become more and more white, and they need to be seen and heard more.

She said that she herself would strive for more opportunities for Asian and Pacific Americans. (Hu Yuli)
