On 16 February 2021, a woman in Gothenburg was accidentally registered as deceased in the population register database.

The mistake happened in connection with the woman's husband passing away.

The error was noticed barely a week later when the woman discovered that her bank card had been blocked.

In addition to blocked bank accounts, the Swedish Tax Agency's incorrect registration led to the woman's ID documents becoming invalid and her insurance being terminated.

The woman has claimed damages from the state with SEK 100,000, of which SEK 47,000 relates to compensation for mental stress.

The Chancellor of Justice has given the woman the right to 20,000 in damages. In his decision, the Chancellor of Justice writes that the Swedish Tax Agency has made a serious mistake in a very privacy-sensitive area.
