Bruno Covas took the reins of the largest city in Latin America in 2018. The centrist mayor had publicly reported his cancer before winning a new mandate in municipal last year.
An aggressive cancer that ended up interrupting its trajectory.
Several other young hopefuls in politics have thus disappeared prematurely in recent years.
On the right, it was first Luiz Eduardo Magalhães, struck down by a heart attack at the age of 43.
Then on the left, Marcelo Deda, victim of cancer at 53, and Eduardo Campos, killed in a plane crash in the middle of the election campaign, at 49.
These disappearances, underline the Brazilian political scientists, constitute an obstacle to the renewal of the political class.
While next year, the presidential election will certainly pit incumbent Jair Bolsonaro, 67, against his main challenger, Lula, 77.
