(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Taiwan adds another 206 local cases, public opinion calls for expanded screening

China News Agency, Taipei, May 16. The Taiwan authorities’ "Pandemic Epidemic Command Center" announced on the 16th that there were 206 newly confirmed cases of local new coronary pneumonia.

Since the 11th, the number of confirmed cases in Taiwan has reached 451.

According to reports from the Central News Agency, United News Network, and ETtoday News Cloud, the minimum age of the new local cases that day was under 5 years old and the maximum was over 80 years old, and they became ill on April 6.

Cases live in 97 cases in New Taipei City, 89 cases in Taipei City, 9 cases in Changhua County, 3 cases each in Yilan County and Hsinchu County, 2 cases each in Taoyuan City and Keelung City, and 1 case in Taichung City.

Among the cases, 105 were related to the Tea House in Wanhua District, Taipei, 44 had a history of activities in Wanhua District, 3 were related to Yilan Recreation Center, and 1 was related to the Southern Fragrance Group.

The command center requires that in order to avoid hospitalization of confirmed patients in Taiwan, medical institutions in Taiwan implement four measures including outpatient operation and load reduction, and suspend non-essential medical examinations and operations such as physical examinations and cosmetics.

For mildly ill patients, the command center hopes that they will stay at home and wait for notification from the health staff; they must maintain a one-person room when they are at home, and they must not leave the room.

In addition, in order to facilitate the prevention and control of infectious diseases, the command center authorized the county and city governments to publish the history of activities in public places for confirmed cases.

In view of the fact that local confirmed cases are concentrated in Taipei and New Taipei, the city governments of the two places announced on the 17th that students in the third grade of high school and the third grade of junior high school can take remote online learning; civil servants in the two places will use flexible time to commute to and from get off work.

In addition, following the suspension of in-store dining services by fast-food companies in Taipei and New Taipei on the 15th, Taiwanese fast-food companies "Dingguagua" announced on the 16th that they would suspend in-store dining services in all Taiwanese stores, and all of them will be taken out.

In view of the continuous expansion of the local epidemic, Taiwanese society appeals to the authorities to expand screening.

The "United Daily News" editorial on the 16th pointed out that the major local confirmed outbreak, apart from the list of epidemic investigations, was mainly the result of expanded screening.

However, the Mayor of New Taipei City, Hou Youyi, has repeatedly proposed general screening for high-risk areas, but the authorities have repeatedly rejected them with "don't do general screening without purpose."

The editorial also pointed out that the command center sent 600,000 text messages to remind people in doubt to go to the screening station for screening on the grounds that people in Wanhua District in Taipei are complicated to enter and exit, which is tantamount to adopting another form of high-risk area. General sieve.

But how much political saliva was sprayed during this period, and how much time was wasted on epidemic prevention.

According to Taiwan media reports, currently only Taipei Wanhua has established community screening stations in Taiwan. Large numbers of people visit and "long queues" in front of the stations every day, as well as people from other counties and cities, increasing the risk of gatherings.

Some doctors called for the establishment of screening stations in the community to prevent people from moving and gathering across districts.

In this regard, the command center said it is under discussion.

According to another announcement, Taiwan has also added one new imported case overseas, who entered the country from India.

Up to now, a total of 1,682 cases have been confirmed in Taiwan.
