Today, the cost of building the house is the decisive part of the rent, but with the new proposal, the property owner will be able to directly negotiate with tenants about what the rent will be.

The proposal is now under investigation and will be presented at the end of the month.

According to the parties behind the proposal, this will lead to more housing, as it makes it more attractive to build rental apartments, but far from everyone agrees.

The tenants' association, which is critical of the proposal, has started a protest list signed by more than 120,000 people.

One of them is Omar Sayed in Husby in northwest Stockholm.

He is afraid that rents in his district will rise to levels that residents cannot afford, and has therefore started protests in the area.
