Stralsund (dpa / mv) - The German Maritime Museum in Stralsund is starting its 70th anniversary digitally.

According to an announcement on Sunday, the first part of an ongoing program will be published on the Internet as part of the 44th International Museum Day.

A podcast from the “OUR MARINE WORLDS” series is about looking into the possible future of the museum in order to also remember its history.

During the summer there will be other offers, including an animated film and an anniversary volume about the history, tasks and plans of the German Maritime Museum.

According to a spokeswoman for the German Maritime Museum, a planned festive event at the end of May had to be canceled in the corona pandemic.

To make up for that, a hybrid event is being planned in June.

A small nature museum moved into the former Dominican monastery of St. Katharinen in Stralsund 70 years ago.

It specialized in maritime exhibition and developed into the most visited museum in the GDR.

After reunification, the museum was transferred to the German Maritime Museum Foundation.
