As RIA Novosti found out, WhatsApp users, mainly retirees, are invited to send the received newsletter to 10 more contacts at the cost of one SMS at € 0.01.

"This way, we will see that you are an active user, and your logo will turn blue and remain free ... Otherwise, WhatsApp will activate the account," - said in such a mailing list of scammers.

Igor Bederov, an expert at the SafeNet engineering center of the National Technology Initiative (NTI), believes that he takes such messages seriously and should not respond to them.

“If we talk about WhatsApp, we can assume here a targeted campaign to discredit the messenger, built on the principles of word of mouth and viral marketing.

No more, ”he stressed.

Earlier, WhatsApp reported that users who did not accept the new agreement by May 15 will lose access to their chat list, but will still be able to answer incoming calls.

At the same time, if you do not confirm the update, after a few weeks WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls to the phone.

Roskomnadzor warned Russian WhatsApp users that since 2014 the messenger has been transmitting a significant amount of user data to Facebook.
