Today, Sunday, the Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah land border crossing with the Gaza Strip to bring ambulances into the Strip to transport the injured as a result of the Israeli bombardment to Egyptian hospitals.

Two sources on the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip told Reuters today that the Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah crossing a day earlier than scheduled to allow the passage of students and those in need of medical care and other humanitarian cases.

The Egyptian (governmental) Channel One said that the exceptional reopening of the crossing to receive the injured came in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The crossing was closed during the Eid Al-Fitr holiday and was scheduled to open on Monday.

A medical source said that Egypt has so far sent 16 ambulances to Gaza to transport the injured as a result of the Israeli bombing, to receive treatment in Egyptian hospitals, adding that a bus carrying 95 people had already arrived from Gaza this morning.

The Public Authority for Health Care in Egypt said in a statement Friday that "the level of preparedness has been raised in 3 health facilities belonging to the authority, in case there is a need to evacuate hospitals for the wounded and injured from Gaza."

The statement added that the Eid al-Fitr holidays have been suspended for some doctors, medical teams and nurses in these medical facilities in preparation for receiving those coming from the Gaza Strip for treatment.

Since Monday, Israel has launched an aggression with planes, cannons and warships against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, resulting in 181 martyrs, including 52 children and 31 women, in addition to 1,225 wounded, according to a statement by the Palestinian Ministry of Health this afternoon, Sunday.
