The PSC has decided to support the transition process in Ndjamena

", tells us a source at the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

The official statement should be published Sunday, May 16, according to the same source and it may impose special conditions, such as a calendar for the organization of the election or the presence of a civilian vice-president. But already, this means that Chad is not suspended from AU authorities, despite the establishment of military power in Ndjamena by son Déby, three weeks ago, and despite the repression. Chadian demonstrators who demanded civil and inclusive power.

This indulgence of the AU towards the new Chadian authorities contrasts with the sanctions that the regional organization had taken against Mali, less than a year ago, after the seizure of power by a junta in Bamako.

But Chad has a central position in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel.

This explains why among the 15 African countries that are members of the PSC, most of the ECOWAS states did not want to sanction the Ndjamena authorities, any more than Cameroon.

They have obviously convinced Algeria, Ghana and the countries of southern Africa to go in their direction.
