In central Karlstad, about 70 people gathered at lunchtime on Friday to protest the unrest.

A large group gathered on Stora Torget to show their support for Palestinians with signs and shouts.

The demonstration lacked permission, and just before 1 pm the police decided to disband the crowd.

- A report has been made of a violation of the Public Order Act, says Lars Hedelin, the police spokesman.

- We protect freedom of demonstration and expression.

At the same time, we have a prevailing pandemic and need to deal with any opinions expressed in the light of both the pandemic and law of order, says Christer Fuxborg, who explains that the police have been involved in a so-called special event which means that extra resources can be added and act faster.

One person suspected

In Växjö, about 200 people gathered on Stortorget.

Most police patrols were on site at Stortorget, but no decision was ever made to disband the demonstration.

The police had finished on the spot around 7 pm and had then managed to get the people who took part in the demonstration to leave voluntarily by having a dialogue with them.

The demonstrators had not been granted permission for the rally and the incident is classified as a violation of the Pandemic Act, as more than eight people gathered in a public place.

In the Stockholm area, the police decided to dissolve a car-borne gathering at Kungens kurva.

Also in Kungsträdgården and in Vasastan, the police decided to dissolve gatherings.

At Möllevångstorget in Malmö, about a hundred people demonstrated marching to Gustaf Adolf's square.

According to the police, the demonstration is not authorized and the police patrols are trying to have a dialogue with the people on the spot.

- We have a pandemic team to comply with and we work according to the method that we must communicate the message that it is eight men that apply, says Martin Jönsson, Malmö Police's task leader.

Maximum eight people

Already yesterday, the police had to pull in at two demonstrations in Karlskoga, when several people gathered to support Palestinians.

Public gatherings of this kind require permission and are now only allowed to gather a maximum of eight people during pandemic times.

Saturday, May 15, is Al Nakba Day, the day after Israel celebrates its independence. Palestinians refer to May 15, 1948 as Al Nakba - the great catastrophe - when many were forced to leave their homes when the new state of Israel was formed. This was the start of the conflict that is still ongoing and has recently escalated again.
