Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - Despite a few rays of sunshine and at least a clear double-digit water temperature, the Magdeburg team did not dare to go into the water at the start of the outdoor pool season.

The lido at Neustädter See and Barleber See registered a few visitors until Saturday lunchtime - but not a single swimmer, as employees reported.

The other three outdoor pools in the state capital will not open until the next two weeks.

"As a rule, the Magdeburgers need two to three warm days to get out of here," said Florian Möbes from the lido at Neustädter See at noon. However, some guests have already stopped by, inquired or bought season tickets. But nobody wanted to bathe at 14 degrees in the water and around 17 in the air. The water was "crystal clear", said the chief swimming master. A few daredevils have been using the bathing area for weeks early in the morning.

On Saturday, however, Nils Wübbenhorst from the Barleber See lido welcomed the first paying guests - but they did not dare to go into the water either, but used the facility for a walk.

The lifeguards used the calm start for a few exercises in the water.

Wübbenhorst said the water quality at the Barleber See was also very good after a treatment against blue-green algae two years ago.

Both pools are now open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with admission ending one hour before closing.

A negative rapid test is a prerequisite, except for those who have been vaccinated, recovered and children under six years of age.

You can either bring it with you and do it yourself on site, or you can prove it with a certificate that is no more than 24 hours old.

Magdeburg was the first and so far only district in Saxony-Anhalt to keep the seven-day incidence permanently below 50 and thus to loosen the strict rules of the federal emergency brake.
