This is not the first time that the Electoral Commission has postponed the date of the poll.
Thus, the Ethiopians will have to wait for the third time, because the elections, initially scheduled for May 2020, had been postponed to August, officially due to the Covid-19 epidemic, before being once again postponed to June 5 of this year.
This time, the postponement is officially due to logistical problems, in particular registration on the electoral rolls, a process slowed down by the deterioration of the security situation in certain regions of the country.
Another reason, that of the printing and transport of the ballots considered problematic, by the president of the Electoral Commission, last week, during a press conference.
No new date has yet been communicated, but the Election Commission is talking about a postponement of about two or three weeks.
A meeting with the political parties is planned to find a final agreement.
In Africa's second-largest country, 36 million Ethiopians registered to vote, a number well below the target of 50 million initially announced by the Election Commission.
