Egypt sends ambulances to Gaza to transport the injured

Today, Saturday, the Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah land border crossing with the Gaza Strip to bring ambulances into the Strip to transport the injured as a result of the Israeli bombardment to Egyptian hospitals, according to medical and border officials.

The medical official told AFP that Egypt "opened the crossing on an exceptional basis for the entry of ten Egyptian ambulances into the Gaza Strip to transport the wounded Palestinians for treatment in Egypt."

The border official confirmed to France Press that the opening of the crossing is considered "exceptional" with the aim of transporting the injured because it is customary to close it on public holidays, referring to the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The Public Authority for Health Care in Egypt said in a statement Friday that "the degree of preparedness has been raised in three health facilities belonging to the authority, in case there is a need for evacuation hospitals for the wounded and injured from Gaza."

The statement added that "Eid al-Fitr holidays have been suspended for some doctors, medical teams and nursing in these medical facilities in preparation for receiving those coming from the Gaza Strip for treatment."

According to the latest toll published by the Palestinian authorities on Friday evening, the Israeli bombing of Gaza has killed 126 people, including 31 children, and injured 950 people since last Monday.

On the other hand, more than two thousand rockets have been launched towards Israeli territory since Monday, killing nine people, including a child and a soldier, and wounding more than 560.
