Foreign media say US President Joe Biden made a normal call with the two sides amid massive bloodshed clashes between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas.

President Biden spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said.

In a call, Prime Minister Netanyahu told President Biden that Israel is doing its best to avoid harming those who are not involved in the fight against Hamas and other groups in the Gaza Strip.

He expressed gratitude for the US support for Israel's right to defend itself, the Israeli Prime Minister's office said.

President Biden also spoke with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Abbas's spokesman said he received an important call from President Biden.

However, it did not disclose the specific content of the conversation.

Reuters said President Biden and the Palestinian head of the Palestinian Authority made the first call since taking office in January.

The administration called for restraint on both sides of the intensifying armed conflict between Israel and Palestinian Hamas at a White House and State Department briefing on Thursday.

The conflict was triggered by a clash between Palestinian protesters and Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa mosque, one of the three holy sites of Islam in East Jerusalem.

Hamas demanded the withdrawal of Israeli police and launched rockets at Israel from the afternoon of the 10th local time, and Israel mobilized fighters to raid Gaza.
