Halberstadt (dpa / sa) - An almost 170 year old curtain for a Torah shrine can be seen from Sunday in the Berend Lehmann Museum in Halberstadt.

The piece was made in 1853 for an entrepreneurial family from Halberstadt, said the museum director and director of the Moses Mendelssohn Academy, Jutta Dick, on Saturday.

The curtain hung in a synagogue in Tel Aviv until 2015, before the descendants of the original owners donated it to the Lehmann Museum in 2017.

The museum then had it restored.

The historical exhibit is part of the new permanent exhibition that will open on Sunday parallel to the International Museum Day in the Berend Lehmann Museum.

Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU), among others, will speak a greeting at a virtual event.

As the acting President of the Federal Council, Haseloff is the patron of the Museum Day.

Around 1500 campaigns are planned nationwide.
