Bad Essen (AP) - Two people seriously injured in a knife attack in an apartment in Bad Essen, Lower Saxony, are not at risk of death.

The Osnabrück police announced on Saturday.

The injured are a 34-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman.

"The perpetrator is known but fleeting," said a police spokesman on Saturday.

The murder weapon was secured.

The Osnabrück police had previously announced on Facebook that a mother and her child, who were apparently also in the apartment, had been brought to a hospital "as a precaution".

The mother suffered minor injuries, which were not due to the attack, but to the escape from the crime scene, it said on Saturday.

More information should follow on Saturday.

The emergency services also looked for a suspect about 23 years old with the help of dogs.

A police helicopter was also used in the search.

It is currently not assumed that the man poses a threat to uninvolved people, it said.

The police have not yet been able to provide any information about the exact circumstances of the crime.
