In response to the recent malicious defacement and nuisance of the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver, the Consulate General expressed on May 14 that it hoped the local police would take effective measures to ensure the safety and dignity of the Consulate General.

The Vancouver police in Canada disclosed on the 14th that they were investigating two recent cases of suspected misconduct against the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver, and called for public investigation.

On March 22, a male suspect who was about 70 years old drove outside the consulate general and got off the car. He then slobbed at the consulate general plaque, spilled unidentified substances, and tried to destroy the plaque with a hammer.

When a member of the Consulate General drove out, the suspect blocked the vehicle, slobbed and insulted the people in the vehicle, and then drove away.

At about 3 a.m. on April 4, a 30 or 40-year-old male suspect walked to the gate of the consulate general, smeared the gate and outer wall, and left.

The local police released the surveillance footage and stated that the actions of the suspects in the two cases were very rude and intolerable.

The Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver responded to the media that according to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the recipient country has a special responsibility to take all appropriate steps to protect the consulate premises from intrusion or damage, and to prevent any disturbance to the consulate’s peace or security. A matter that undermines the dignity of the consulate.

It is hoped that the police will take effective measures to ensure the safety and dignity of the Chinese Consulate General in Vancouver.
