Pellworm (dpa / lno) - The North Sea island of Pellworm receives federal funding of a good 200,000 euros for the development of a climate protection concept.

The money came from a program of the Federal Environment Ministry, said Astrid Damerow (CDU), member of the Bundestag, on Saturday.

Pellworm, with around 1,100 inhabitants, is mostly below sea level and is increasingly at risk from the sea level rise that is to be expected from climate change.

"This gives the Pellwormers very direct access to deal with climate change and its consequences," the MP continued.

For this reason, the municipality and the Pellworm office decided with the Halligen to make their economic and tourist activities climate-neutral.
