Mainz (dpa / lrs) - With preparations for the election of a state list, the Greens in Rhineland-Palatinate started the federal election campaign.

"Let's lead the general election campaign of our lives," said Federal Managing Director Michael Kellner on Saturday to the around 200 mostly digitally connected delegates at the party congress in Mainz.

For the party there is a new situation of a "duel between us and the Union".

There is a noticeable willingness to change in society, which the Greens are the addressees.

"I hope that we have a good result, that we will be represented with significantly more members in the next Bundestag," said state chairman Josef Winkler at the opening of the meeting. The party currently has three members of the Bundestag from Rhineland-Palatinate. Based on the latest surveys, the state executive expects that there could be four to six in the future.

The Mainz Bundestag member Tabea Rößner applied for the top spot on the state list.

Tobias Lindner and Torsten Klein from the Westerwald district association are running for second place.

The state chairwoman Misbah Khan from Bad Dürkheim wants to be in third place on the list, for which the Trier member of the Bundestag Corinna Rüffer is also applying.

According to the statutes of the party, women and men are alternately elected to the list.
