Paris (AP) - Again a brutal crime in a Parisian suburb shook France: A 17-year-old was allegedly killed by a teenager with a knife.

According to initial findings, the background is a dispute in social networks.

The young people wanted to defend their sister from attacks on the Internet, reported French media.

The alleged suspect was arrested by the police after a brief escape.

In the past few months there had been fatal clashes between young people around Paris.

The act took place on Friday afternoon in a high-rise estate in Ivry-sur-Seine - just a few kilometers from Paris.

"According to what we have learned, there is no rivalry or gang war in this story," the newspaper "Le Parisien" quoted an investigative source as saying.

The visibly shaken mother of 17-year-old Marjorie describes it in a similar way.

It was not a drug dispute, she said in front of television cameras.

"She just wanted to defend her sister - with words".

According to initial findings, there were arguments and bullying on social networks in connection with the victim's sister.

This was attacked there.

The 17-year-old then wanted to mediate between the sister and the alleged perpetrator.

According to various sources, the 14 or 15-year-old then picked up the knife and killed Marjorie, they say.

"My daughter was not a criminal, she was a hardworking student, she wanted to finish high school soon," said the mother.

She saw her daughter lying on the floor and there was blood everywhere.

The crime took place in the high-rise housing estate Pierre et Marie Curie in Ivry-sur-Seine.

Like so many of these settlements around Paris, it was built in the 1960s to provide housing.

Many of these quarters have now developed into hot spots.

In the past few months there had been repeated violent clashes between young people in the Parisian suburbs - and there were also fatalities.

However, it was not always an inter-gang conflict.

In March, a 14-year-old was ambushed by two teenagers, possibly out of jealousy.

The girl was beaten and thrown into the Seine - investigators were only able to recover his body.
