It was not face painting, flags and music when the first Swedish, perhaps even European, demonstration for LGBTQ people's rights was held in Örebro in 1971. The group that took the initiative then called themselves Gay Power and consisted of about ten people with placards.

- I can imagine that it was quite nervous, says Jan-Eric Norman who is chairman of Gay Power 2 and historian, with thoughts like "How should this be received?

What will happen?".

"Painless"

The group then quietly marched from Järntorget over Storbron on towards Stortorget where they met the press.

- A few days later, the Örebro courier wrote a notice stating that "a homodomestration has been carried out and that it has all gone painlessly", states Jan-Eric Norman.

It may not have been so painless for everyone who participated but those who did should be proud!

But what made the group go out and demonstrate?

Listen when Jan-Eric Norman tells in the clip.
