The New York police said that a female vagrant was arrested recently and she was suspected of "hammering" two Asian women in Midtown Manhattan earlier this month.
According to the police, 37-year-old Ebony Jackson was charged with assault, illegal possession of weapons and threats in the May 4 incident.
At around 8:40 that night, the victim was walking on 42nd Street near 9th Avenue in Manhattan, New York. At this time, a strange woman approached them and shouted: "Take off your mask!"
According to New York police, she then hit the two women with a hammer, hitting one of them in the left cheek.
From the surveillance video, it can be seen that the victim and his companions evaded several times, and the suspect was chased and attacked.
The 31-year-old victim was scratched on his forehead and his injuries are still recovering.
In an interview with NBC News after the incident, the victim said: "I have been here for two years and I have never encountered such a thing."
The police said earlier that they were investigating whether the incident was a hate crime, but no hate crime charges were filed on Wednesday.
