Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - More than 100 people gathered at the synagogue in Gelsenkirchen on Friday to demonstrate against anti-Semitism.

They followed a call by the Gelsenkirchen “Initiative against Anti-Semitism”, which had called for participation after an anti-Semitic demonstration on Wednesday at the synagogue.

Anti-Semitic slogans were also shouted at the unannounced demonstration.

"I am deeply appalled and outraged by what happened here on Wednesday evening," said one citizen.

She carried a self-painted sign that read: «Fight anti-Semitism!

No matter who it comes from! "

After the unannounced demonstration, the Gelsenkirchen police have now identified two men who are said to have been involved.

The State Security Department has taken over the investigation.
