Zeist (AP) - Wolfsburg's goal scorer Wout Weghorst and Mainz defender Jeremiah St. Juste are in the provisional EM squad of the Netherlands.

Bondscoach Frank de Boer nominated the two professionals from the Bundesliga on Friday in his 34-player line-up, which he has to reduce to 26 players by June 1st.

Weghorst had last missed the games in the World Cup qualification in March and then expressed his incomprehension about the lack of nomination.

De Boer had recently given the striker, who has scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga this season, hopes of a nomination.

“It's amazing what he shows this season and what he did last season,” said de Boer.

Weghorst could benefit from the fact that 26 instead of the usual 23 professionals can be nominated for the squad at the pan-European European Championship from June 11 to July 11.

The Mainz St. Juste was appointed for the first time in March.

The Netherlands will meet Ukraine, Austria and North Macedonia in their preliminary group in Amsterdam.

De Boer will gather the first part of his squad, led by Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, in Zeist on May 24th.

Weghorst and St. Juste will not be there yet, as they are still in action in the Bundesliga two days earlier.

On May 28th, the Oranje team will start with the main part of the preparation, in which it will go to Portugal for a training camp for a week.
