Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - A man found a hand grenade from the Second World War while working in the garden in Frankfurt.

His wife alerted the police on Thursday afternoon, the officials announced on Friday.

The US grenade could not be removed due to its condition and was blown up on site.

Several residents had to leave their homes.

According to the police, there was no personal injury or property damage during the demolition.

The residents were able to return to their apartments in the evening.
