Hanover (dpa / lni) - After around a year of the corona pandemic, the public prosecutor's offices in Lower Saxony have initiated 1658 investigations into possible violations of the Infection Protection Act.

This was announced by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice in Hanover on request from the dpa.

These violations can therefore be punished with a fine or up to five years in prison.

Criminal offenses and administrative offenses in connection with the corona pandemic are regulated, for example, in the Infection Protection Act (IfSG), the Lower Saxony Corona Ordinance or in general decrees of the districts and urban districts.

The Infection Protection Act regulates administrative offenses and criminal offenses in paragraphs 73 to 75. Depending on the severity, there is an administrative offense or a criminal offense.

Paragraph 74, for example, covers anyone who violates applicable hygiene regulations and thus spreads the coronavirus.

From March 2020 to mid-April 2021, according to the Ministry of Justice, 302 proceedings for violations of this paragraph were conducted across the country.

In addition, there are 1356 proceedings for violations under Section 75. These include, for example, offenses against a quarantine order.

How many administrative offenses due to corona violations have been registered in Lower Saxony so far is not known to either the Ministry of the Interior or the Ministry of Justice.

These are recorded differently and in part collectively - there are no statistics on this.
