Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Hunters in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will in future be able to get subsidies for the purchase of cooling devices in which the wild boars that have been shot are kept against the backdrop of African swine fever (ASP).

The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Friday in Schwerin that a corresponding application could be submitted to the highest hunting authority by October 1 of each year.

Depending on the size of the area, the funding amounts to a maximum of 1200 euros.

This is financed from the hunting tax.

In order to further prevent the introduction of the ASP to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the wild boar population must be reduced.

ASF is harmless to humans, but fatal to wild and domestic pigs.

The animal disease was detected in wild animal populations in Brandenburg and Saxony last year.

Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus pointed out that the “somersault premium” would continue to be paid.

For each wild boar shot, an expense allowance of 50 euros would be paid.
