The attack took place on Friday morning and at least twelve people who were in the mosque for the Friday prayer must, according to Afghan police, have been killed, writes AP.
The imam of the mosque is to be one of the victims.
At least 15 people are said to have been injured in the attack.
A police spokesman said an explosive device had been placed inside the mosque and the detonation took place shortly after Friday prayers began.
A police investigation is now underway.
No one has yet taken on the act, reports AP.
