London (AP) - The Internet giant Amazon wants to create 10,000 new jobs in Great Britain this year.

The company announced this after a major offensive in the USA and Canada with targeted 75,000 new employees had already become known.

In London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cambridge, new jobs are to be created in the software area and in the further development of artificial intelligence as well as in areas such as marketing or video production.

In addition, the group announced that it will invest 10 million pounds (around 11.6 million euros) in training and development programs over the next three years.

The pandemic has boosted demand for Amazon's delivery services, the company had already hired hundreds of thousands of new employees last year and is now the second largest US employer behind retail giant Walmart.

At the end of 2020, Amazon had around 1.3 million employees worldwide.
