(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Taiwan's mass infection case continues to expand, the authorities shirk responsibility

China News Agency, Taipei, May 10. The Taiwan authorities' "Pandemic Epidemic Command Center" announced on the 10th that four new infections were gathered in the Novotel Hotel China on the same day. Now the number of infected persons in the case has reached 35.

In response to the expanding group of infections, the person in charge of the command center claimed that "Official documents run slower than the virus." This remark caused controversy in Taiwanese society.

According to reports from the Central News Agency, United News Network, and China Times News, the 4 cases of mass infections announced by the command center that day were 1 China Airlines cargo pilot, 2 family members of China Airlines pilots, and 1 Novotel Hotel employee.

At present, the number of confirmed cases of the cluster infection has accumulated to 35 people, including 13 China Airlines pilots, 1 flight attendant, 14 relatives of China Airlines pilots, 6 Novotel hotel employees, and 1 hotel outsourcer.

Due to the continuous expansion of cluster infections, the civil aviation authority of the Taiwan authorities fined China Airlines 1 million yuan (New Taiwan dollars, the same below), and the transportation department of the Taiwan authorities and the Taoyuan city government fined Novotel Hotel a total of 1.41 million yuan.

Taiwanese media reported that employees of the Novotel Hotel reported to the authorities that the hotel had an epidemic prevention loophole in February this year, but the Taiwan authorities only sent official documents to Taoyuan City and gave no other response.

In the face of media doubts, the person in charge of the command center stated that “the official document ran slower than the virus”, which triggered social criticism.

"United Daily News" commented that there are more and more loopholes in the rules set by the command center.

Just like the management window of the Novotel hotel, the people don't care if they report it. Where can the bureaucracy escape the virus?

China Times News reported that although the relevant units have severely fined China Airlines and the hotel, no politician was responsible for apologizing for this. It would be better to say that the bureaucratic mentality is more dangerous than the virus.

The authorities received reports, and under the premise of focusing on epidemic prevention, they only transferred official documents and did not track the follow-up treatment.

Relevant units want to use the arbitration of China Airlines to guide the trend and shirk responsibility, obviously because of the bureaucratic mentality.

The command center announced on the same day that 11 newly imported cases of new coronary pneumonia in Taiwan entered the country from the Philippines, Syria, India and Indonesia.

As of now, a total of 1,199 cases of new coronary pneumonia have been diagnosed across Taiwan.
