Alexander Murachovsky was in charge of the care of Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny after he was poisoned in August 2020. Now he has disappeared without a trace.

SVT's Russia correspondent Bert Sundström says that Murachovsky was last seen in connection with a hunting trip last Friday.

- He left a hunting lodge on a four-wheeled vehicle.

When friends and acquaintances did not hear from him, they became worried.

Since then he is gone, says Bert Sundström in Morgonstudion.

Became a symbol

While Alexei Navalny was still in a coma, Dr. Alexander Murachovsky determined that he was not suffering from poisoning but that his medical condition was probably due to a low blood sugar level.

But when Navalny finally received treatment in Germany, tests analyzed in several laboratories were able to establish that the opposition politician had been poisoned with the neurotoxin novitjok.

Bert Sundström believes that Murachovsky has become an official representative of the Russian version of what happened.

In the Morning Studio, he says that the doctor, after caring for Navalny, made a lightning career where he was appointed, among other things, the Omsk region's Minister of Health.

- It has gone well for him because he has done what the authorities in the Kremlin want you to do, Sundström says.

Save the life of Navalny

At the same time, he emphasizes that Murachovsky, despite being seen by the outside world as a person who denies the truth, helped save Navalny's days after the poisoning.

Alexei Navalny is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for embezzlement.

The sentence is a previous conditional sentence that was commuted to imprisonment on the grounds that Navalny violated the duty to report while in hospital.

According to Bert Sundström, Navalny is now recovering after he recently interrupted a hunger strike for several weeks in protest that he has not received care for other injuries.
