Bremen (dpa / lni) - With a courageous jump into the water, an 18-year-old saved the life of a cat whose owner had previously thrown the animal into a lake.
The young man was out for a walk with his girlfriend of the same age on Saturday afternoon when they both noticed a man with a bicycle and a cat transport box at Waller See.
They couldn't believe their eyes when he took the transport box from the bike and suddenly threw it into the water.
The couple clearly heard a "meow", whereupon the 18-year-old jumped into the water and brought the box and cat ashore, as the police announced on Monday.
The 53-year-old cat owner received a criminal complaint under the Animal Welfare Act.
The two young people received explicit praise from the police.
